Pilsen Historical Underground Tour
We’ll take you through a labyrinth of passageways, cellars, and wells beneath Pilsen.

The underground, a part of Pilsen’s history and present!
We will take you through a labyrinth of passageways, cellars, and wells built beneath Pilsen as early as the 13th century. During the tour, you will discover life beneath the town and uncover the secrets of authentic finds and hidden nooks and crannies. You will learn how the underground was created and explore the many ways it has been used over the centuries. Thanks to the exhibits and displayed artifacts, you will be immersed in the history of the town and the everyday life of its medieval citizens. The underground tour is approximately 800 metres long and runs 5 to 7 metres beneath the historic centre of the city of Pilsen.
On the tour, you will receive a beer voucher, which you can exchange for a 0.3 l glass of Pilsner Urquell beer at select Pilsen restaurants (for visitors aged 18 and over only). Treat yourself and your loved ones to a souvenir from our gift shop. You can also combine your visit with a tour of the Brewery Museum, which is located in the same building.
What can you expect on the tour?
A Labyrinth of Corridors and Cellars
Beneath the historic center of the city of Plzeň lies a maze of corridors and cellars stretching over 13 kilometers, built gradually over centuries. Accompanied by a guide, you'll walk along an approximately 800-meter-long tour route located 5 to 7 meters below ground.

Wells
Along the tour route, you will see approximately 20 of the original hundreds of wells that once existed in the city center. You’ll also discover historical wooden suction pipes that were used to draw water from the wells.

Reinforced Corridor
You will see both authentic sections of the underground, hand-carved into sandstone, and remnants of extensive reinforcement work carried out in the second half of the 20th century. This reconstruction was essential to ensure the structural stability of the entire historic city center.

Water Wheel
At the very end of the tour, you’ll enter the underground section of the Water Tower, where you can admire a faithful replica of a 7-meter-wide water wheel made of oak wood.

Beer Tasting
If you're 18 or older, you'll receive a so-called “Pivenka” during the tour – a voucher that lets you enjoy a 0.3 l glass of Pilsner Urquell lager in selected restaurants in Plzeň.
